The view from the island as taken from the boat. This photo shows the little village that once graced the island. The white house in the photo was restored in recent years. It is the stone built houses that are in ruins that formed the original village.

As you can see, all that remains from the original village are ruins. All houses are in very close proximity of each other as the 'village folk' used to socialise in each others homes. Each night, they took it in turns and spent hours singing or storytelling.

This is the operating site of our first activation from here. On August 7th 2008, we managed a brief visit despite harsh sea conditions and made a handfull of QSOs. We only operated 40m SSB on this trip. This was primilary a site survey, and preparation for this 4 day DXpedition. Also in the background is 'Beiginis' another one of the 6 islands that make up the Blasket Island group.

This cottage is privately owned and again, has been restored to original condition. This is a typical traditional Irish home and this was probally built in the late 1800s.

Meet one of the Island's only residents. It is only sheep, rabbits, birds and a few donkeys that survive on the island now since it's evaquation in 1953.
